Painting by Lake Garda

What a treat to be visiting Lake Garda, in Italy once again, only this time with a group of artists.

The northern part of the lake with the villages of Riva Del Garda, Malcesine and Limone on the lakeshore provide so much to delight the senses. There is so much to choose to paint or sketch, from the rugged mountain backdrop to the architecture of the buildings and the cypress trees. Everywhere you look it is a feast for the eyes with so many beautiful colours!

Limone Italy

We spent a couple of days exploring by boat, the village of Limone, where there are lots of lemon groves  set into the mountaineous rockface. The view is spectacular as you approach by boat.  We soon found a quiet tiny harbour with some colourful boats . We settled down and did some sketching with black pen adding colour with brushpens or watercolours.

Malcesine Italy

In the afternoon we crossed the lake by boat to Malcesine with its imposing castle resting on a rocky foundation jutting into the lake. After lunch in a lovely courtyard restaurant “Di Capitani” we walked along the lake shore to choose a view back to the town and castle. The colours were so vivid, from the bright blue sky to the turquoise and greens of the water and all the various greens of the trees and shrubs.

This truly is a magnificent location for painting, sketching and for developing your colour awareness. Visually there is so much to choose from to enrich your creative side.
